To Middle School Journalists: Attend Events

To put it bluntly for those who love writing but feel the need to isolate yourselves from reality, here is my advice to you: “Never isolate yourself for too long. It can become extensively boring and you will never be able to understand what it takes to become a writer unless you go out and attend events you’ve never been to before. What you gain from your experiences will change you for the rest of your life.”

In other words, what you learn from your good and bad experiences, will change how the way you see things, think and feel as a writer. Do not be afraid to speak your mind and make sure you gather your facts before posting for the entire world to view. Sometimes what you hear and see are not always as truthful as you think it might be. Get out of the house for once and have fun. Life is too short to stay inside on a daily basis.

To Middle School Journalists: Starting a Blog on WordPress As Extracurricular Activity

Dear Middle School Journalism Students,

If you enjoy writing and snapping photographs but have no interest partaking in extracurricular activities at school, create a blog on WordPress.com because it involves sharing your experience with the world, regarding what you have learned in school thus far and the events you have attended for the first time.

Here are some directions in order to get started on WordPress as a blogger:

#1: To get started, click on “Get Started”–>Start with a blog–>Option to select website theme or skip for now–>Give your website a name address–>Create a free or premium account and create account by typing in your email address and creating a password for WordPress.com

#2: After you create your account, explore your “blog theme” for your website by clicking on: My Site and hit “themes.” You can select one that is either free or do it premium. Afterwards, hit “activate” and see what happens on your website.

#3: In order to create a blog post, scroll your mouse to the top right hand corner and click “Write.” As you will notice at the bottom right hand side of the screen, there are “categories” and “tags.” Categories refer to your post topic. In other words, if you plan to write about your first experience as a blogger, you can create a category and label it as “Blogger Experience” whereas tags are used for essential keywords you use to highlight the post of the day. For example, “blogger” or “getting started.”

To Middle School Journalists: Writing Yearbook Story Paragraph Layout

In middle school, you are learning how to expand your vocabulary and speak in front of a large class. But if you love writing and have an interest in joining the yearbook staff, here are some story ideas you can write about regarding your graduating class:

#1 Paragraph: Describe the beginning of your graduating class. First impressions matter the most.

Example: When we entered our first year of middle school, it was difficult to communicate with one another since we came from different places. Learning to know each other took a bit of time and effort but now we understand ourselves at a faster rate since we have completed our sixth grade together.

#2 Paragraph: Describe experiences from beginning to end.

Example: At our first pep rally, we had a blast. From winning the spirit stick to befriending seventh and eighth graders to field trips and joining extracurricular activities, our sixth grade experience has been once in a lifetime memorable flashback we will never forget.

#3 Paragraph: Conclusion.

Example: To conclude our first year of middle school experience, we welcome the upcoming sixth grade class to join us at a meet-and-greet orientation where our class speaks among the crowd regarding our experiences and how they can enjoy their first year without stressing out as to how many homework assignments they will have to complete on a daily basis. Congratulations class of 2023, we have accomplished one year and look forward to spending time with one another within the next few months to come.

To Middle School Journalists: How to Write a Local Newspaper Report

If you are attending middle school and plan to become a newspaper reporter one day, here is an example of how to write a local newspaper report:

First Paragraph (19-34 words)–> What Happened: On January 7th, there was a robbery at a local Mapco gas station off of Main Street in East Nashville, Tennessee .

Second Paragraph–> How it happened & Who Spoke: According to an eyewitness, the suspect pulled up at a gas pump in a 2012 Ford Explorer around 8:45 p.m. and walked inside, demanding the cashier to open the register till and give him $100 immediately.

Third Paragraph–> Description of Where & What The Suspect Did: The witness mentioned that the cashier remained calm and opened the register as quickly as possible before the suspect departed the store with cash in hand. A video of the robbery was recorded, along with the name of the vehicle and license plate the suspect had driven.

Last Paragraph–>Contact Information: The Metro Police Department in Nashville did not catch the suspect in time. However, they offered a $1,000 reward to anyone who knows where the suspect is located. If anyone has any information regarding his whereabouts, contact the Metro Police Department at 615-***-****.

If you are interested in blogging and would love to create scenarios which can help you improve your writing abilities, please do so in order to understand why journalists have to report these news in a certain order.
